Club Championships are a two day competition held at the end of the season. In 2019/20 the Championships are scheduled for Friday 27th March and Saturday 28th March 2020. All swimmers must nominate to compete.
At Club Championships the swimmers compete against swimmers of the same age and gender only.
Swimmers will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals in 12.5m, 25m & 50m championship events. They will also accrue points for the four strokes in these distances which will count towards overall age champion in each age group.
Swimmers will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in 100m events in every stroke, as well as Individual Medley events.
Every child will receive a competitor ribbon as a memento of the event.
2018/19 Club Championships
Nominations for Club Championships are now open online here (select Day 1 and 2 separately), and will close on Friday 22nd March 2019. An entry list will be produced at that point, and final changes will be accommodated up to Monday 25th March. After that time, no further nominations will be accommodated. Late changes or entries will not be taken on the day, and this will be strictly enforced. Please ensure you submit nominations to avoid disappointment. If you can't make it to one or both days, please submit a "Can't Make It" nomination so that we know you haven't forgotten to nominate.
To participate at Club Championships, children must be registered and fully financial competitive swimmers, or Stingray Pups with the Samford Stingrays Swim Club and must have attended 6 standard club nights for the season.
A report showing club night swims to date can be found HERE. If your child will not have swum at 6 club nights, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit a request for an exemption to this rule. Ie. Where there are extenuating circumstances (ie. injury, joining late in the season, or parenting arrangements) which have impacted upon a child's ability to attend. The rule does not apply to adult swimmers. Social swimmers are ineligible for club championships, and should participate in club championships with their competitive club where offered.
Please note that children are able to participate in any events appropriate for their age group, regardless of whether they have qualified at our regular club nights or are swimming those events at our regular club nights. This means that all Individual Medley & 100m races are available to any swimmer who would like to enter, on top of the four 25m or 50m events. They do not have to ‘qualify’ or have swum that stroke/distance at club night.
The program is as follows:

100m Butterfly, 12.5m/25m/50m Breaststroke, Adult 50m Breaststroke, 12.5m/25m/50m Backstroke, Adult 50m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle

SWIMMERS MAY NOMINATE FOR:
- one distance in each stroke - either 12.5m / 25m / 50m - whichever applies to your child's age group
- 100m events in any / all strokes
- either the 100m or 200m Individual Medley (noting that 13+ years must swim 200m IM).
Events are set by age & distance as follows: (age is age on the blocks as at the first day of competition – ie. 29th March 2019).
Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke & Butterfly
For each stroke select one of:
12.5m – Age 7 & Under Only. Must be regularly swimming the 12.5m distance at club nights. Swimmers may not 'swim down'. If your child has swum 25m in a stroke at two or more club nights, regardless of age, they must stay up at 25m. If your child is age 8+ as at 29/3/19 you must progress your child to 25m if they have met the progression times listed here.
25m – 6&Under, 7, 8, 9 years
50m – 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17+ years
100m – 10&Under, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17+ years
Individual Medley - select either 100m or 200m (not both)
Club records for the IM are kept as follows, and will be swum at club championships as:
100m - 8&Under, 9, 10, 11, 12 years
200m – 13, 14, 15, 16, 17+ years
50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke
100m Individual Medley
Some children may find that they will need to swim up or down in distance, depending on age. There is no option to swim a shorter distance if their age group requires 50m, and similarly swimmers cannot enter the 50m events if their age group is scheduled to swim 25m at club championships. This is a longstanding club rule and is aligned to the club records. As a result of this, if your child needs to practice swimming up in distance, they may jump in a spare lane at the next 3 clubs nights to gain confidence (but should still continue swimming at 25m for points purposes) Please see Kylie at the timing system desk should you wish to arrange this.
Swimmers aged 8+ who are currently swimming 12.5m events and have met the progression times to swim 25m will now need to progress up to 25m for Club Championships, and should consider progressing up starting this Friday 8/3/19.
Club Presentations - Friday 5th April 2019
The club holds a separate Club Presentation Evening to award age champions, points champions for points accrued throughout the season, record breakers and other achievements. All children will also receive a perpetual plaque or pups trophy. Please set aside Friday 5th April 2019. (date change from original placeholder)
Perpetual Points Plaques
All returning members from last season who were awarded perpetual plaques should start returning your perpetual plaques commencing this Friday evening, to enable them to be prepared for 2018-19 points engraving. New members will receive a new plaque (if accruing points), or pups trophy for 12.5m swimmers.
Other awards to be recognised at Club Presentations:
Age Champions will be calculated from points for swimming 25m/50m in all 4 strokes over the course of the two day club championship carnival. (12.5m, 100m events & medley events will not count). The distance applicable to your child is set by age. Children aged 9 & Under will swim 25m. Children aged 10+ will swim 50m.
Points Champions. Points will continue to accrue for all standard club night events up until Friday 22nd March. With three club nights remaining, all children should put in their best performances to maximise the final allocation of points for the season. Points placings are invariably very tight across all age groups. Children who are capable of swimming 100m might want to consider throwing some 100m events into the mix to maximise their points scoring ability.
Other Awards. We will also recognise overall club champions, distance champions, and the Jackie Phillips Cup and Carol Bizzell Award of Excellence recipients; as well as records broken during the season, State/Regional qualifiers, and other achievements recognised by Swimming QLD.
